Lonely Planet Offers Something New to Travelers

In Spring 2010, Lonely Planet unveiled a brand new full-color country guidebook series. Developed after extensive third-party research for travelers who want a shorter, highlights-based travel guide for their holiday, the Discover series highlights the best a country has to offer, while still providing the authentic and memorable experiences travelers expect from Lonely Planet. The new titles for the series are Australia, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Thailand (all launched in March); Europe and Germany (May); Egypt and Greece (August).

Stephen Palmer, Lonely Planet’s Managing Director, Print Publishing, said, “We recognize there are travelers who want guidebooks that focus more on the iconic attractions, sites and experiences, while still suggesting the less obvious things that will surprise and delight them. The Discover series' key attributes – full-color, itineraries, local experts, ‘best of’ lists, and easy-to-access information – will make Lonely Planet’s expert travel information more accessible to a broader group of travelers.”

The Discover series is the latest addition to Lonely Planet’s evolving portfolio of guides for every type of trip and traveler. These also include the iconic ‘blue-spine’ Country Guides (exploring every aspect of a destination), Multi-Country & Region Guides (focusing on a specific region or a few select countries), Shoestring Guides (comprehensive guides with budget recommendations), City Guides (for extended time in one city) and Encounter Guides (short city breaks).
