About Travel with a Challenge
Like the people in the image above, we are a team of journalists, photographers and web designers who love to travel the world. And we are passionate about bringing our experiences to an audience of mature travelers looking for something other than conventional travel. We prefer travel with a challenge from educational land and ship based adventures to volunteering in some of the most fascinating projects the world has to offer.
About our Web Publication
Launched in 2000, Travel with a Challenge web magazine’s mission has always been about encouraging our readership to look beyond mainstream rest and relaxation vacations and destinations to the wider, deeper travel opportunities that await the greatest adventurers of our time … the mature travel readership, ages 45 to 80+ years.
Accompanied by an abundance of inspiring images, we present engaging feature articles and news stories that spotlight nature-based vacationing, educational travel, cultural and historical travel and volunteer service vacationing around the world. Stories must all be suitable for, though not exclusive to, the interests, needs and widely-varying budgets of our 1.24 million senior travel readers from the U.S. and Canada to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and beyond.
Whether walking or cycling the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route across northern Spain or sailing aboard an expeditionary small ship into rarely-visited waters, whether volunteering to care for pandas in China or learning from a Laplander about reindeer herding in northern Finland, we’ve got all the information needed for our readers to think about their next adventure and make decisions. Whether traveling by river cruise or canal barge, train, bus or car, or horseback or camel riding, walking and cycling, we have experiences to suggest.
We are also dedicated to finding opportunities to bring family generations together as they search for meaningful vacations in strange and inspiring circumstances that create rewarding memories for grandparents, parents and grandchildren alike.
Spearheaded and managed from the beginning by Alison and Peter Gardner, Travel with a Challenge is proud to have attracted inspiring, insightful contributions from seasoned writers and amazing photographers around the world, many of whom have come back to the pages of our publication again and again. They are part of the family! From time to time, we will profile one of these respected family members, and point readers to their diverse article contributions that have enriched our permanent Travel Article Library collection so much.
